Thunder Bay -- Scrabble enthusiasts went head-to-head as they put their literacy skills to the test.

The Thunder Bay Literacy Group held its 18th annual Scrabble Tournament at Intercity Mall on Saturday to raise funds in support of adult reading, math and computer skills programs.

"Literacy affects every aspect of your life and we give everybody the opportunity to come to our program and get some help," said volunteer coordinator Bianca Cava.

"This is our main fundraiser of the year and it's our way of getting out to the community to raise funds for our programs,"

The goal for this year's tournament was to raise $10,000.
