THUNDER BAY — Saint Elizabeth Health, a not-for-profit organization that employs nurses and personal support workers, will shut down most of its Thunder Bay operations in the New Year.
According to a source, more than 60 people received termination notices from SE Health this week.
The charitable health care organization has operated the North West Service Delivery Centre, based on Tungsten St., for 25 years.
In a statement to Newswatch from its Markham-based headquarters, the company said it is restructuring in order to continue its "focus on quality care, operational excellence and financial sustainability."
It said it's working closely with partners to ensure clients are transitioned to other services in the safest way possible, and will provide support to the staff who are impacted by the closure.
SE Health will continue providing a home hemodialysis program in partnership with Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Its other services will be terminated as of Jan.12, 2025.
SE Health was established in Canada in 1908 by four pioneering nurses.
On its website, it states "we have worked with purpose for more than a century to bring hope and happiness, and forever impact how people live and age at home. Today, our 8,000+ team members nationwide provide care in more places and ways than ever before, bringing health to life for over 20,000 Canadians every day."
