OPP confirmed Friday afternoon that the man who went missing following a swim in the MacKenzie River is Larry Larivee, 26, of Thunder Bay.

The OPP’s underwater unit began its search for Larivee Friday.

Police officers arrived at the start of the trail that leads into the area where Lariveewas swimming with co-workers. Larivee was reportedly cliff diving from a rock ledge into the river Wednesday afternoon.

Police have since blocked off the trail leading into the popular swimming area for safety reasons.

The family has been notified.

“We’re doing our very best to make a recovery,” said OPP Sgt. David Moscall .

“We are going to bring in a helicopter. I believe it is a Ministry of Natural Resources helicopter. It has to be a step-by-step thorough search. It will start with the area last seen and then the search will expand to cover as much ground as we feel is required.”

Moscall added that they have found nothing so far.
