Second Westfort shooting suspect arrested

A 36-year-old Thunder Bay woman has been charged with attempted murder.

THUNDER BAY — A second person faces charges after this week's shootout in Westfort.

Thunder Bay police on Friday said 36-year-old Deserrae Dawn Barber was arrested has been charged with attempted murder using a restricted or prohibited firearm for her alleged involvement in Tuesday's exchange of gunfire on Amelia Street.

Police had been called to the area . Video released earlier this week shows shows a group of three people leaving the Spence Court building, while a fourth person emerges a few seconds later and opens fire. The three quickly hurried behind the cover of parked vehicles, with two returning fire.

Thunder Bay Police Service Det.-Insp. Jeremy Pearson had said that more than 20 rounds were fired during the interaction.

Three of the suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Police had arrested one of the suspects — 20-year-old Iverson Thomas — in the area following the shooting. Thomas has been charged with attempted murder using a restricted or prohibited firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, discharging a firearm into or at a place in a reckless manner, resisting a peace officer, careless storage of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Barber appeared in bail court on Friday and remains in custody.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and officers are continuing to seek the other involved suspects.
