Section of Red River Road to close for up to eight weeks

Closure is needed to complete work on the Reimagining the North Core Streetscapes project.

THUNDER BAY — A section of Red River Road is expected to close, starting on Tuesday, for six to eight weeks.

According to a release issued on Thursday by the city, the closure will take place between St. Paul and Court streets, and is necessary in order to complete the final phase of the Reimagining the North Core Streetscapes project.

Outstanding work includes the installation of final pavers, the placement of street furniture, and various electrical, street lighting and traffic signal improvements.

The work will be weather dependent.

City officials say no formal detours will be posted and motorists and pedestrians are advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes during the closure period.
