THUNDER BAY — The replacement of underground infrastructure is forcing the prolonged closure of a section of Simpson Street starting on Aug. 9.

The City of Thunder Bay's engineering division says the stretch between Ogden Street and Cameron Street will be fully closed as of Friday morning.

It expects the project, which includes the replacement of sewer, water and stormwater pipes as well as resurfacing of the roadway, will take up to three months to complete.

During construction, motorists will be directed to detour via McKenzie Street and May Street.

Sidewalk access will remain available along Simpson Street, although there may be intermittent closures during some phases of the work.
