DRYDEN, Ont. — Three fires north of Armstrong are among the seven new forest fires discovered Sunday by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in northwestern Ontario.
The MNRF reported that two of the fires were both located about 95 kilometres from the community, and were 5.0 hectares and 2.4 hectares in size.
A third fire, estimated at 1.0 hectares, was burning about 45 kilometres northwest of Armstrong.
As of Sunday evening, there were 78 actives fires in the northwest region, of which 72 were either under observation, being held or under control.
The fire hazard ranges from high to extreme in most of northwestern Ontario.
The MNRF said in a news release that smoke was drifting into the region from fires burning in western Canada and the United States.
