THUNDER BAY — City police have arrested seven young people in connection with an assault at Hammarskjold High School last week.
The victim in the incident, a 15-year-old student, was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries which police said "were not believed to be serious."
According to a police statement Wednesday, an initial assault happened on Dec. 12 across the street from the high school, near Oak Avenue.
It was followed by a second assault in a school bathroom a short time later.
With the involvement of a Thunder Bay Police Service school resource officer, multiple suspects were identified, including three 14-year-old females, a 15-year-old female, two 15-year-old males, and a 16-year-old male.
All seven have been charged with assault.
Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities are being withheld.
The accused individuals were all released from custody with conditions pending their next appearance in court.
Thunder Bay Police said their investigation is ongoing.
In a brief statement last week, the Lakehead District School Board said they were "conducting a full investigation in accordance with the Education Act, as well as cooperating with the Thunder Bay Police Service to aid in their investigation."
