MARATHON, Ont. – A Sunday night apartment fire in Marathon has left several families without a home.
The town’s fire department responded to a call at 3 Hemlo drive around 10:40 p.m. Sunday.
Mayor Rick Dumas thanked the local fire department and its firefighters for their quick response.
“Luckily in this case there were no injuries,” the mayor said in an interview with CFNO Radio. “The fire department did a great job at saving the remainder of the building and the adjacent buildings.”
Twelve units of the 30-unit apartment complex were significantly damaged by the fire.
Dumas said he expects numerous local organizations will step forward to help the victims recover from this tragedy.
On Monday, the town’s Pizza Hut donated 15 per cent of its sales for the day to the apartment fire victims.
The cause is still under investigation.
