THUNDER BAY – Five Thunder Bay gas stations have gone where no gas station has gone before in the city.
All five, four Esso stations and one Husky station, have hiked the price for a litre of regular unleaded fuel over the $1.70 mark.
Esso stations on Arthur Street West and Memorial Avenue have increased the price at the pump to a local record $1.799 a litre, while the Husky on Highway 11/17 and an Esso on John Street are now at $1.759.
Most other stations in the city have a litre of regular unleaded at $1.699.
The lowest price in the Thunder Bay area is $1.43 a litre at THP Variety and Gas Bar on City Road in Fort William First Nation.
The Ontario average, according to OntarioGasPrices.com, is $1.629 for a litre of regular unleaded. A station in Pembroke, Ont. is now charging $2.00 a litre.
The Esso and Shell stations in Kakabeka Falls are currently charging $1.799 a litre.
