THUNDER BAY — A dozen individuals have been arrested after a Thunder Bay Police investigation into the non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

The charges follow an investigation by the TBPS Cyber Crime Unit that began in 2023.

In an announcement Wednesday, police said the probe was launched after they learned images of multiple women from the city had been shared through groups in an online chat platform.

A total of 117 victims have been identified, including from across Canada and in at least three other countries.

Investigators seized nearly 600 exhibits after executing 18 search warrants, 15 general warrants, and 26 production orders.

TBPS said more details about the 12 accused and the nature of the charges would be disclosed later in the day after they made their initial appearance in court.

They face a total of 172 charges.
