THUNDER BAY – The sound of revving engines could be heard throughout the Intercity area Saturday afternoon as the second Show N Shine car show of the year took place.
With the July Show N Shine fundraiser for the Northern Cancer Fund a success, event organizers wanted to put on another show before the end of the season, and despite the overcast skies, over 60 vehicles were on display.
“The weather wasn’t really exactly what we were expecting, but it turned out a lot better than we both thought,” said Jonathan Osada, one of the event's planners. “A lot of people love it, [it’s] a lot better this time, we’re way more organized and very happy that this turned out the way it did still with the weather.”
The second round of the event included more prizes and saw the addition of awards, with categories including best American, best Japanese, best European, best classic, and best exhaust.
For event lead Kevin Ng, the combination of the cars and the cause is a natural fit.
“I work at the cancer program, I’ve had cancer myself, and I also love cars,” he said. “So, combining all those things together just made sense.”
Saturday’s show raised over $650, making for a combined fundraising total of more than $1,500 with July’s Show N Shine event.
The addition of a rarely-seen “best exhaust” competition, where cars face off two at a time and the crowd determines the winner, was highlighted by the organizers.
“We’re going to have two cars side by side and doing basically a rev-off, and whatever the crowd likes more is the winner, and we’re just going to do basically king-of-the-hill type battle, and whoever wins at the end will get best exhaust award.”
Winners from the event included:

Best Classic Car – Jack – 1947 Chevy 3100 Pickup
