SHUNIAH — Thunder Bay OPP has arrested an alleged drunk driver outside of the city.

Just before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, provincial police were doing traffic enforcement in the area of Highway 11/17 near Mackenzie Station Road in Shuniah.

After spotting a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, officers pulled over the driver and suspected they were under the influence.

Police believe the driver was impaired by alcohol and have charged a 31-year-old Shuniah man with a pair of related offences.

The accused has been released from custody and has a future court date.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect that someone is driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
