Environment Canada says 10 to 15 centimetres could land on the city, the weather system possibly bringing freezing rain and ice pellets before turning into snow early Tuesday morning.

THUNDER BAY -- The first full day of spring is threatening to bring a significant snowfall.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the city of Thunder Bay, calling for between 10 and 15 centimetres, starting Monday night and lasting through Tuesday night.

The weather system is also bringing a risk of freezing rain or ice pellets, which could change over to snow by early Tuesday morning. Environment Canada said the snowfall accumulation prediction is tough to make with temperatures fluctuating around the freezing mark.

Areas where the mercury stays below 0 C could see up to 20 centimetres of snow.
