SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – The Sioux Lookout Bombers don’t appear to be the typical Superior International Junior Hockey League expansion team.
The Bombers on Saturday night nabbed their third win in four outings to start their inaugural season, downing the Thunder Bay North Stars 4-1 at Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena in front of 405 fans.
Connor Burke, Phil Parker, Tyler Decoff and Aiden Parker each scored for the home side as the Bombers improved to 3-1-0.
Edison Weeks had his fifth of the young season for Thunder Bay (1-3-1).
Jake Manners picked up the win in nets for the Bombers, the loss going to the North Stars Jero Rossi.
Dryden 7, Fort Frances 2: Ryland Maier had two goals and two assists to lead the Ice Dogs to victory. Bryce Benfield added a goal and two helpers, with singles going to Josh Greene, Jordan Pfoh, Easton Debray and Jeremiah Jacques. Darnell Kempf and Branden Hill had the Lakers tallies.
Red Lake 9, Kam River 1: A night after blowing a four-goal lead in the third period to the Fighting Walleye, the Miners made no mistake in the rematch. Red Lake exploded for five goals in the second and added four more in the third to cruise to the win. Jacob Lamoureux had a hat trick for Red Lake, with Evan Maslack scoring twice. Simon Bienvenue had the only goal for Kam River, which suffered its first lost of the season. Jack Osmond earned the win in nets for the Miners, making 21 saves.
