THUNDER BAY — Fire investigators have found signs of foul play in the aftermath of the blaze last week that destroyed the Hell's Angel's clubhouse and Rizzo's Cabinets on Simpson Street.

The Nov.19 fire also caused water damage in the Underground Gym.

A spokesperson for the Ontario fire marshal's office said Monday the investigation has now been turned over to Thunder Bay Police as a criminal matter.

No other details were provided, but Thunder Bay Police said their Major Crime Unit is investigating the incident as a case of arson.

When firefighters were called to the Tuesday night blaze, they found it was already well-advanced.

There have been multiple fires in recent months in the 500 and 600 blocks of Simpson Street.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Greg Hankkio said last week that the fire department is concerned about the number of fires in the neighbourhood.

Hankkio suggested residents be vigilant.

"We want people to be diligent and be on the lookout for any suspicious activity."
