THUNDER BAY – Carroll Baker, the Canadian country music singer whose first recordings were made in Thunder Bay, has announced her final national tour.

It will take place next spring, and will include a performance in Thunder Bay at the Community Auditorium on Apr. 12.

Baker's singing career spans 55 years.

Born in Nova Scotia in 1949, she moved with her family to Oakville, Ontario at the age of 16, and a few years later began performing with a local band on weekends.

In 1970, she came to Thunder Bay and met local music producers Don Grashey and Chuck Williams.

Baker's first single, Memories of Home, was produced at Grashey's DMG Sound Studios on Cumberland Street, and remained on the country charts for 26 weeks.

Among her numerous other hits are Ten Little Fingers and the Alcoholics Anonymous anthem One Drink Is One Too Many (And a Thousand's Not Enough).

During her career she recorded more than 20 number one hits, 14 albums, four compilation albums, and 55 singles.

Baker released 31 consecutive charting singles from 1970 to 1982, won five Juno Awards, and hosted a show on CBC Television, The Carroll Baker Jamboree.

In 1982, she was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and in 2009 she was appointed to the Order of Canada.
