THUNDER BAY -- The province’s Special Investigations Unit is examining the circumstances of a collision between a Thunder Bay Police cruiser and another vehicle from Feb. 29.
According to the SIU, a male driver was seriously injured following a pursuit by a Thunder Bay Police Service officer last week.
At about 5:35 p.m. on Feb. 29, the officer attempted to stop the driver.
The pursuit ended when the police vehicle and SUV collided in the area of Neebing and Broadway Avenues. The driver of the SUV, a 31-year-old male, was taken to hospital via ambulance where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.
A 35-year-old female passenger of the SUV was not injured.
The Thunder Bay Police Service is fully cooperating with the SIU investigation.
According to a Thunder Bay Police media release, the officer is currently on administrative leave.
