RED LAKE, Ont. — Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has discontinued its investigation into an incident in September that left a man in OPP custody injured.
The SIU says it has determined there is "no potential criminal liability" on the part of any police officer.
On Sept. 13, a 31-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication and placed in a cell at the Red Lake detachment.
About 40 minutes later, he tripped over the toilet bowl and struck his head against the cell door.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.
SIU interim director Joseph Martino, in a statement Friday, said records show the prisoner was checked regularly while in custody, and that medical attention was provided to him "promptly" following his fall.
The SIU has now closed its file on the incident.
