THUNDER BAY -- Although the city hasn’t seen any snow yet this season, snowmobilers are preparing for the winter that is just around the corner.
With an extended snowmobile seasons the last two winters, Thunder Bay Adventure Trails co-ordinator Andrian Tessier says they've seen an increase in people purchasing trail permits before the early bird rate is over.
Riders have until Nov. 1 to get a permit at $180. After Nov. 1 the price rises to $210 before rising once more to $260 after Dec. 1.
Tessier says Thunder Bay is the starting point for trails leading west and it takes many man hours to maintain them. But once the snow starts falling, people can visit the Thunder Bay Adventure Trails website to find out what trails are ready to go.
Tessier says they hope to see about 12 inches of snow on the ground before they go out and get the trails ready for the season.
