Some local pharmacists to offer flu shots this season

THUNDER BAY -- Local pharmacists will be able to give residents their season flu shot this year.

THUNDER BAY -- Local pharmacists will be able to give residents their season flu shot this year.

The province announced new powers and responsibilities for pharmacists Tuesday that includes allowing them to administer the seasonal flu shot as well as renewing prescriptions.

But in order to give the shot pharmacists will have to do additional training and will have to have a certification.

Janzen's pharmacist Brenda Adams says that residents should check with their pharmacist to ensure that they are certified.

The government will be compensating pharmacies for giving the flu shot so there will be no charge to patients.

Adams says she hopes this will make care more accessible.
