South-side residential fire causes heavy damage

No one was injured in a fire on Franklin Street on Sunday.

THUNDER BAY — Damage is described as extensive after a two-storey residence on Franklin Street South caught fire early Sunday.

Firefighters arrived within three minutes of receiving the alarm at 6:50 a.m, and conducted a search to ensure no one was inside the home.

It turned out that the residence was unoccupied at the time, and no one was injured.

Six pumper trucks and an aerial ladder unit were dispatched to the scene.

The main floor sustained significant damage.

There is no word yet on how the fire might have started.
