A special event was held Monday night to recognize the contributions of volunteers from the city and surrounding region.
The Thunder Bay Volunteer Service ceremony was held at the Valhalla Inn. Some 224 recipients were presented with special awards for their contributions to the community.
Ontario’s Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Eric Hoskins, was in town to preside over the ceremony. Minister Hoskins said the night's event was part of his first trip to Thunder Bay.
One of the highlights of the night was the recognition of Gilbert and Mattie Adams, who have been volunteering actively for 50 years.
