THUNDER BAY – The city’s splash pads are beginning to open for use for the 2022 season, starting with the Prince Arthur’s Landing splash pad, which is now open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week, and the Water Garden Pavilion, open seven days a week from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

“We are very excited to start opening the splash pads today,” said Cory Halvorsen, manager of parks and open spaces. “They're a great way for kids to have fun, get outside for some exercise, and cool off in the summer.”

The Franklin Park and the County Park splash pads are expected to open by June 17, while the North End Park and James Street Playfield splash pads will open June 24. All will be open seven days per week, from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Staff will be working on site at the splash pad at Prince Arthur’s Landing. The remaining splash pads will not be staffed this year, and the fencing installed during the COVID-19 pandemic has been removed.

There will be portable washrooms on-site at all splash pad locations.

Rules of operation will be clearly posted at the sites. Users are asked to follow the rules and to respect other users.
