THUNDER BAY — Tickets for a lottery that supports St. Joseph's Hospital are now available at convenience stores in the Thunder Bay area.
The St. Joseph's Foundation said Wednesday the Split the Pot monthly lottery, the first non-OLG lottery accessible in stores, gives local residents the opportunity to help fund critical care and services provided by St. Joseph's Care Group in the city.
The foundation became a participant in the online lottery last August in partnership with the fundraising arms of 70 other hospitals in Ontario.
The grand prize winner gets 60 per cent of the pot, two winners share 20 per cent of the payout, and ten other winners split the remaining 20 per cent.
"We're thrilled to introduce the Split the Pot lottery in convenience stores across Thunder Bay," said Gail Brescia, president and CEO of the St. Joseph's Foundation.
"Every ticket purchased contributes to vital medical equipment, including IV pumps, vital signs monitors, physiotherapy tools, and Hoyer lifts – enhancing care in rehabilitation, long-term care, and mental health programs."
Brescia added that in addition to providing equipment, the foundation ensures client-focused supports are available, such as blankets, personal care items and mobility aids to help clients experience greater comfort, dignity and independence in their daily lives.
The deadline for buying tickets for the March draw is Wednesday at 11:59 p.m., with prizes to be awarded Thursday.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, the total payout was $415,000, of which about $250,000 would go to the grand prize winner.
