THUNDER BAY – The first of this year’s Sports Cards & Collectibles Show was held by the Sports Collectors Club at the Ramada Hotel on Saturday to give members and the community a chance to see and possibly trade or purchase sports memorabilia for their collections.
Ralph Rosengren, the coordinator of the show, said he was excited to start on the handful of events the group will hold this year and that Easter weekend was the perfect time to hold the first of the year.
“Well, we do a sports card show a couple of times in the fall and a couple of times in the spring. A lot of the guys are into the hobby and since COVID happened, the hobbies really exploded,” he said.
“We’ve got 16 vendors here at the Ramada Hotel, you know, everybody's buying, selling, trading, all kinds of sports memorabilia and Pokémon, Magic, a lot of different collectibles, just guys that have an interest in the hobby and be an Easter weekend, a lot of people thought there wasn't maybe a lot going on, so it seemed like a good time to have another show.”
Rosengren said that he was very happy with the turnout and that he was glad to see so many young people with an interest in the hobby.
“It's always good to keep things alive, but we end up, [with] a lot of Pokémon dealers, the most vendors we've had at a show so far today, so that was good, and it was a pretty good-sized crowd,” he said.
“A lot of people have interest, and you know, even just getting out cause don't have to spend a lot of money if you don't want to, and if you're a big collector, there's also a lot of stuff that you could spend some serious money on, so, it's just a lot of fun for everybody.”
While Rosengren doesn’t have any concrete dates set for the next Sports Cards & Collectibles Show, he said to keep an eye out for the next announcement.
