THUNDER BAY – Fundraising during COVID-19 has challenged most, if not all, organizations in Thunder Bay and across the country.
The St. Joseph’s Foundation is no different, but executive director Gail Brescia says she’s confident and hopeful the return of the Grand-A-Day lottery, complete with bonus prizes for 2020, will help them hit their $50,000 target.
Albeit a month later than usual, the 29th edition of the lottery will feature $1,000 prize winners each day in December. There will be early-bird $1,000 winners every Friday in November, and a $5,000 early-bird winner drawn on Nov. 30.
The grand prize winner, who will take home $10,000, will be unveiled on New Year’s Eve.
The money is valuable to St. Joseph’s Care Group, helping the organization purchase equipment not covered by provincial government funding. It goes a long way to boosting quality of life for patients living in long-term care.
“Whether it’s Bethami Nursing Home or Hogarth Riverview Manor, those funds to go support our clients and the services we provide in long-term care,” Brescia said.
It could include anything from buying new beds or exercise equipment or providing musical programs for residents to help treat dementia issues.
“It’s lots of things that the government does not provide funds for, things that the foundation can provide through the great support of our community and the great people of Thunder Bay, honouring their loved ones or giving a straight-up donation to support the cause.”
Tickets are $100 apiece or three for $250 and are available in person at the foundation office at St. Joseph’s Heritage on Carrie Street, or by phone at 768-4440.
Tickets are on sale through Nov. 30 and open to Ontario residents only.
