With the success of its first year, the Staal Foundation Open wants the city's help to keep it going.

The PGA Tour Canada tournament generated $2.7 million in economic impact to the province, more than $1.8 million to the city in its first year. Executive director Scott Smith said he's been getting calls from officials and players all over the world to congratulate organizers and the city.

"We think this could be a longterm event for the city." Smith said, with the tour coming back in 2015 for the second run of its three-year deal.

It came to city council Monday looking for $20,000 in cash and $20,000 in kind, mostly for transit, the same as the city gave last year.

"We're asking for council to continue their support," he said.

The event also raised money fro several charities including Camp Quality, the United Way and St . Joseph's Heritage.
