THUNDER BAY — Canada Post is dealing with a staffing challenge at the post office located at the Alloy Drive mail processing centre.

Customers arriving to mail parcels, buy stamps or use other postal services are finding the door locked at times, with a handwritten sign stating the closure is due to a shortage of staff.

In an email Tuesday to TBnewswatch, Canada Post spokesperson Janick Cormier wrote that the Alloy Drive location is "temporarily serving customers with limited staff due to recent unforeseen circumstances. This means that the post office may be closed for a short period from time to time."

Cormier said the corporation is working to hire more employees to deal with unplanned staffing shortages "going forward."

The post office spokesperson did not indicate how often the closures are occurring, or when the current problem is expected to be resolved.
