UPDATE: Stand-off at Cumberland Street motel

An adult male was taken into custody following a standoff at a north-side hotel.

THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Police have taken an adult male into custody on Wednesday night, following a standoff at a Cumberland Street motel.

About 10 police cars, marked and unmarked, descended on the motel and an officer on scene was overheard ushering people out of the potential line of fire, saying at least one suspect had a gun.

Police, in a release issued on Wednesday night, said they received a report of a disturbance at the motel at about 6:15 p.m. and upon arrival a standoff took place, that lasted about two hours.

Police remain in the area on Wednesday night.

Officers also blocked off the sidewalk across the street from the hotel, between McCulloch and Nelson streets.

This is a breaking news story. More information will be added when it becomes available.
