Stars Barron blanks Islanders

THUNDER BAY – Ethan Barron joined the shutout club on Saturday night.

The Thunder Bay netminder stood tall in the North Stars net to pick up his first career Superior International Junior Hockey League whitewashing, leading his team to a 5-0 road win against the expansion Kenora Islanders.

Edison Weeks had a pair to lead the North Stars offence, with singles going to Connor Larrett, Dimitri Trahiotis and Tyler Jordan.

E.J. Paddington had a pair of helpers for the visiting North Stars (11-4-1).  

Matthew Stephens took the loss in net for the Islanders (1-11-1).

Kam River 5, Sioux Lookout 4: Matteo Salvatore scored the game-winner with 3:04 to play in regulation to lead the Fighting Walleye (13-2-0) past the Bombers, who trailed 4-1 but scored three straight to tie it on Jonah Smith’s goal at 16:33 of the third. Carter Nailen, with a pair, Jett Minktenko and Braeden Duchesne scored for Kam River. Smith and Owen Cotter each scored twice for the Bombers (10-5-2).

Dryden 4, Fort Frances 2: Jackson Payeur and Carson Devine scored third-period tallies to break open a 2-2 contest. McLaren Paulsen scored the other two Ice Dogs goals. Evan Kael and Ryker Watt replied for the Lakers.
