THUNDER BAY — The Ontario Liberal Party has nominated Stephen Margarit to run in Thunder Bay-Atikokan in the upcoming provincial election.
Margarit joins Progressive Conservative incumbent Kevin Holland and former New Democrat MPP Judith Monteith-Farrell in the race. The Green Party has yet to publicly nominate a candidate.
Margarit, who spent five years working as a constituency assistant to former cabinet minister Michael Gravelle, currently is the foundation coordinator for the George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation.
He also has experience in labour, having been the coordinator at the then-Bombardier Labour Action Centre. He currently chairs of the city’s Clean Green and Beautiful Committee and the Downtown Fort William Revitalization Committee, according to a press release announcing his candidacy.
“After almost seven years of Doug Ford, residents of Thunder Bay-Atikokan are struggling. Whether it’s health care, education, housing or the cost of living, our friends and neighbours are falling behind, while wealthy insiders are reaping the benefits,” Margarit was quoted as saying in the release.
“It’s time for a government focused on making life more affordable by investing in people and the services they rely on.”
Voters go the polls on Feb. 27.
