THUNDER BAY - Members of the public are being encouraged to have their say on issues relating to policing in the city of Thunder Bay.

The Citizens’ Satisfaction and Trust Survey is still open to the public and the researchers are hoping to gather 2,000 responses before analyzing the data.

The survey was first launched in October 2023 and is meant to gain insight into public perceptions of the Thunder Bay Police Service, particularly on perceptions of trust and the services it provides.

The data collected will inform police training going forward in the city of Thunder Bay.

Researchers with Lakehead University are conducting the survey on behalf of the Thunder Bay Police Service.

The initial run of the survey was to be six weeks, but that has since been extended once in December and again on Jan. 1, 2024 by another six weeks in order to allow for more responses to come in from the public.

The survey has garnered approximately 1,100 responses to far.

Researchers have also been meeting with the public at various community organizations and local libraries to ensure those who do not have access to a computer or phone can still participate.

A researcher will be at Grace Place on Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for anyone wishing to fill out the survey in person.

Once all the data is collected, it will be analyzed and released in a report to the community. That is expected to take two to three weeks following the completion of the survey.

Those wishing to complete the survey online can do so at the Citizens’ Satisfaction and Trust Survey website.
