THUNDER BAY — A motorist faces multiple charges after fleeing city police in an allegedly stolen vehicle.
Police say they were patrolling in the Vickers Street and Donald Street East area at about 5 a.m. on Tuesday when they spotted the missing vehicle parked nearby.
Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the occupants refused to comply and drove away erratically along the sidewalk and across front yards before returning to the roadway, taking off at a high rate of speed.
For public safety reasons, police did not pursue.
About 15 minutes later police were contacted by a Broadmore Avenue resident, reporting an unknown vehicle in their backyard.
The vehicle was unoccupied when police arrived, so police followed footprints and located a male suspect, who was in possession of the vehicle’s keys.
Police arrested the man and took him into custody.
