THUNDER BAY — Two stories that intrigued and entertained were among the most popular of the thousands of articles published in 2019 on tbnewswatch.com.
Not surprisingly, however, an analysis of user data showed that high-profile crime stories and tragedies tended to be the most widely read.
Of the 15 tbnewswatch.com stories that attracted the largest readership last year, eleven involved serious criminal cases or fatalities.
Our coverage of one issue–a series of threats against Hammarskjold High School–made the list twice for articles related to the apprehension of the two suspects.
The two most popular stories not related to crime or tragedy were Wolves pursue dog on Northwestern Ontario highway and Highway 17 flagman entertains with dance.
The wolf story included dramatic photos of a dog running for its life along Highway 71 in November after two large wolves exited the bush and lunged at it.
The flagman story included video of a worker at a north shore highway construction site relieving the tediousness of the job while entertaining motorists waiting to resume their journey.
Other stories in the top 15 were about the Thunder Bay District Health Unit declaring an HIV outbreak within the city's homeless and under-housed population, and Canada Post customers experiencing parcel delivery delays after the post office hired a new courier service.
