GUELPH, Ont. – Nothing like a four-goal win to kick off a three-game road trip.
The Lakehead Thunderwolves on Thursday night scored a 7-3 triumph against the host Guelph Gryphons, their fourth win in five outings to open the 2022-23 campaign, not to mention their third straight overall.
Seven different scorers lit the lamp for LU, who scored the game’s first six goals, opening a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Griffen Fox, Keighan Gerrie, Joe Mack, Kevin Stiles, Colin Van Den Hurk, Spencer Blackwell and Ben Badalamenti all had goals for the Thunderwolves, who were outshot 42-31 on the night.
Christian Cicigoi, who lost his shutout bid to Luke Bignell just past the midway point of the third, stopped 39 of 42 shots.
Nolan DeGurse and Bignell, with his second of the night and fourth of the season, had the other Guelph goals. Colton Imoze took the loss in net for the Gryphons.
The Gryphon Centre win vaulted the Wolves (4-1-0) into second place in the OUA West, with eight points, two behind front-running Brock (5-0-0).
Lakehead takes on Waterloo on Friday night and wraps up their three-game trip on Saturday against Wilfrid Laurier.
