Strikers talk to patients arriving at the Port Arthur Health Centre on Monday

THUNDER BAY -- Patients of one of Thunder Bay's largest health clinics can expect to encounter some delays, now that picketing has begun at the Port Arthur Health Centre at Court and River Streets.

Members of Unifor Local 229 went on strike Monday morning and set up pickets at three locations around the clinic.

Picketing at the River Street entrance was slowing the passage of vehicles into the parking lot.

Management has said the centre will remain open and continue to provide care to patients.

The union represents about 65 clinic staff who work as appointment secretaries, medical aides and in medical records.

Their last collective agreement expired December 31, 2017.

The key issue in the dispute is wages.
