THUNDER BAY — Malfunctioning safety arms at the CNR crossing on Memorial Avenue disrupted traffic in the Intercity area of Thunder Bay for hours on Wednesday.
A witness said that about 9:00 a.m., after a train passed through the crossing on Memorial near Dunlop, the safety arms failed to lift.
Thunder Bay Police assigned officers to the area to direct traffic away from the crossing until a CN maintenance crew fixed the problem.
Police said Memorial Avenue was reopened at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Late Wednesday afternoon, CN issued a statement apologizing to commuters for any frustrations they encountered as a result of the incident.
