THUNDER BAY — The Compass North Student Led Clinic will host its first-ever Mini Medical School for Northern Ontario residents.
The initiative, run by a local group of medical students, will offer an introduction to medicine and preventative health by exploring medical science with experienced healthcare professionals.
The two-day event aims to inspire and educate future medical professionals, show the community what it is like to be in medical school, promote health and health literacy and foster connections within the community, according to its website.
No medical knowledge or experience is required to attend the program.
Locals are offered the opportunity to join two free-to-attend sessions: ‘Life in the Balance: Mastering Diabetes Management’ on March 3 and ‘Back on Track: Understanding, Managing and Preventing Back Pain’ on March 17.
These sessions will run 7 to 8 p.m. EST at NOSM University in Thunder Bay, or 6 to 7 p.m. CST.
With in-person attendance at NOSM University limited to 30 participants, these sessions will also be available at partner organization locations across the North Shore region.
These locations include the Lakehead University campus and the 55+ Centre in Thunder Bay, the North Shore Family Health Team in Schreiber, the Marathon Family Health Team and the Wawa Family Health Team.
Locals can also attend the sessions virtually on the clinic’s Webex platform.
To pre-register for in-person or online sessions at NOSM University, residents are encouraged to visit the Mini Medical School’s website.
