THUNDER BAY — A motorist picked the wrong time and the wrong spot to exceed the speed limit by more than 40 kilometres an hour on Monday.
As it happened, the Thunder Bay Police traffic unit was conducting training on speed enforcement for several members of the TBPS primary response branch.
While demonstrating the use of hand-held laser speed-measuring devices, they tracked a compact car being driven at 93 km/h on a stretch of Golf Links Road where the limit is 50 km/h.
The female driver was charged with speeding and stunt driving, lost her driving privileges for 30 days, and saw her vehicle impounded for 14 days.
The charges have not been tested in court, but she will appear in provincial offences court in May, where a conviction would result in a significant fine.
The incident came a day after the TBPS traffic unit charged a 76-year old motorist after tracking a vehicle at 105 km/h in the 50 km/h Community Safety Zone on Oliver Road near the hospital and Lakehead University.
That individual was also charged with speeding and stunt driving.
