Substantial amount of snow expected overnight

City to implement calendar parking and priority route parking restrictions on Saturday.

THUNDER BAY -- Environment Canada has issued a weather travel advisory for Thunder Bay and surrounding communities, especially along the north shore, stating between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow is expected to fall.

The storm is tracking to begin on Friday night and continue into Saturday.

As a result, the City of Thunder Bay announced it plans to implement calendar parking rules and priority route restrictions, beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday. A release added parking officers will be out enforcing restrictions.

The rules are put in place to allow for snow plows to clear local streets more effectively.

Calendar parking is in effect from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and only allows parking on one side of the street, based on an odd or even date, and priority routes restrict vehicles from parking on either side of the road from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. over night.

The restrictions remain in place until spring.

Environment Canada says the snow is expected to ease up on Saturday afternoon.
