Sudden death deemed a homicide

Killing is the eighth murder in Thunder Bay in 2020, one more than in all of 2019.

THUNDER BAY – Police have deemed a sudden death in the 400 block of Main Street as a murder.

In a release issued on Monday, police say the body of Christopher David Meeseetawagesic, 31, was located by a passerby at about 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, who phone 911 to report a possible body in the area.

Thunder Bay Police Service’s major crime unit is investigating the alleged killing and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Police continue to hold the scene on Monday afternoon and have asked the public to keep their distance and stay out of the area until it’s released.

A post-mortem is scheduled for Toronto later this week.

Police have not indicated if any arrests have been made. 

Anyone with information about Meeseetawagesic’s whereabouts for the 72 hour prior to Sunday morning is asked to phone police at 684-1200. Tips may also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com.

The Thunder Bay Police Service is treating a weekend sudden death investigation as a homicide, and has identified the male victim. 

Police were originally dispatched to an area in the 400 block of Main Street just after 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30 after a passerby called 911 about a possible body in the area. 

When police arrived they located the body of a deceased male, who has since been identified as Christopher David MEESEETAWAGESIC, 31, of Thunder Bay. Next of kin has been notified. 

Members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding MEESEETAWAGESIC’s death. 

If you have any information that could assist investigators, or know of the whereabouts of MEESEETAWAGESIC 72 hours prior to Sunday morning, please call police at 684-1200.

A post mortem examination is being scheduled to take place in Toronto later this week. 

Police are holding a scene around the 400 block of Main Street and request the public continue avoiding this area if possible.
