THUNDER BAY — The discovery of human remains in a residential neighbourhood of the city has led to the arrest of one individual.

Thunder Bay Police announced on Wednesday afternoon the remains of a deceased person were located Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of the 800 block of Finlayson Street and the 400 block of McKellar Street North.

Police did not disclose the individual's identity, but in a second news release a few minutes later they issued a statement acknowledging Deborah Anishinabie is no longer the subject of a missing person investigation.

TBPS said this is now a private matter between investigators and the family.

Earlier Wednesday afternoon, Nishnawbe Aski Nation announced that TBPS had informed the missing woman's family her body had been found in the 800 block of Finlayson Street.

Police said Levi Michael Lawson, 24, has been charged with committing an indignity to a human body.

He appeared in court Wednesday, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
