T-Wolves bounced from OUA playoffs

WINDSOR, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves are headed home for the summer.

The men’s hockey team dropped a 7-2 decision on the road on Friday night to the Windsor Lancers and were swept out of the OUA playoffs, dropping their best-of-three opening-round series 2-0.

It was Lakehead’s fifth straight series loss to the Lancers.

Domnic Murarreh broke open a 2-2 contest early in the second period, the first of five straight Windsor scored as LU failed to extend the series to a deciding Game 3 on Saturday night.

Jake Durham and Keegan McMullen scored first-period goals for Windsor, who led 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Barrett Dachyshyn, Brady Hinz, Jayon Fetter and Grant Spence also tallied for the hos Lancers, who advanced to Round 2 of the OUA West playoffs.

Liam Whittaker, with his second of the series, and Olivier Pouliot scored for Lakehead.

Max Wright took the loss in net for LU, allowing three goals on 11 shots before being pulled in favour of Christian Cicigoi, who missed the past several months with an ankle injury.

Nathan Torchia, who made 56 saves in Wednesday night’s Game 1 overtime win, was good on 35 of 38 Thunderwolves shots.

Lakehead was playing without captain and top defenceman Tyler Jette, who was suspended for two games for a hit he made in Game 1 of the series.
