TORONTO – The Lakehead Thunderwolves will have plenty to think about over the Christmas holidays.
The defending OUA West champions limped into the holiday break on Saturday night, outgunned on the road 7-0 by the Toronto Metropolitan Bold.
Ryan Dugas made 38 saves for the bold to record the shutout, the first of his OUA men’s hockey career, and Connor Bowie recorded TMU’s second straight hat trick performance, scoring three times and adding an assist to lead the offensive attack.
Max Wright got the start in nets for LU, but left the game at the 8:41 mark of the second, having allowed four goals on 13 shots. His replacement, Brock Aiken, stopped 11 of 14 TMU shots he faced in the final half of the game.
Lakehead sits at 8-8-1 with the loss, alone in fifth place in the OUA West, with 11 games to go. The top five teams in the conference make the playoffs, with the sixth- and seventh-place teams contesting a play-in game for the final postseason berth.
TMU improved to 11-5-0 by completing the weekend sweep.
The Thunderwolves next home game is Dec. 29 against the Manitoba Bisons, a non-conference series that will conclude the following night. Their next regular-season game is Jan. 5 against Queens (11-6-1).
