THUNDER BAY -- Lakehead's all-star guard Michael Okafor has been drafted in the second round of the Canadian Elite Basketball League's USports draft.
The Toronto native, an OUA West second-team all-star, was taken with the 13th overall pick in the draft by the Hamilton Honey Badgers.
Okafor averaged 19.6 points a night for the T-Wolves in 2021-22, helping lead Lakehead to an 11-5 regular season finish.
St. Francis Xavier forward David Muenkat was the No. 1 overall pick. The 6-foot-7, Brampton, Ont. native was taken by Scarborough.
Carleton's Alan Louis was the top OUA player taken, going No. 2 to the Montreal Alliance.
The CEBL is a 10-team, Canadian-based professional basketball league with teams from British Columbia to Newfoundland. Teams play 20-game schedules from May to August.
Former OUA stars such as Laurentian's Kadre Gray and Carleton's Thomas and Philip Scrubb are among the top stars who call the CEBL home.
