THUNDER BAY – Make it two in a row for the Lakehead Thunderwolves

Spencer Blackwell and Malte Hasselgren staked the T-Wolves to a 2-0 lead on home ice on Friday night, Blackwell’s fourth of the season the lone goal of the first period, Hasselgren’s second in a Lakehead uniform the line goal of the middle stanza.

Richard Whitaker added an empty netter with 35 seconds to go in regulation, his first with the Thunderwolves, completing LU’s 3-1 win over the visiting Nipissing Lakers.

Tyson Tomasini had the only goal for the Lakers, who lost for a second straight outing against the Thunderwolves this season.

Christian Cicigoi made 42 saves in goal for Lakehead, while Zach Roy was good on 42 of 44 shots directed his way in the Nipissing net.

With the win, LU improved to 5-3-1, good for solo fourth in the OUA West. Nipissing remained in the division basement, slipping to 2-9-1.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at Fort William Gardens. Game time is 8 p.m.
