Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh has announced his retirement.

THUNDER BAY – Tbaytel CEO Dan Topatigh has announced his retirement after a decade as the senior executive of the local telecommunications company.

Topatigh came on as chief financial officer with the company in 2007, and transitioned to the role of president and CEO in 2013.

In a release, Tbaytel said Topatigh had “led the organization through a period of sustained growth and expansion” during that time.

That included the rollout of fibre internet in the Thunder Bay area, expansion of service into the outlying region, and the evolution of Tbaytel’s mobility network, the company said.

“I am grateful to have led a tremendous team of employees who are dedicated to ensuring that the residents of Thunder Bay and northwestern Ontario benefit from exceptional telecommunications services and the many other contributions that Tbaytel provides to our neighbourhood,” Topatigh said in a statement.

A lifetime resident of Thunder Bay, Topatigh is a Chartered Professional Accountant and worked in senior management with Bowater and Abitibi Consolidated's Thunder Bay mills before his time at Tbaytel.

Tbaytel said its board of directors will now lead a search for the company’s next CEO.
