UPDATED: TBFR responds to Market Street fire

Fire near County Fair mall draws significant response from fire department, lone occupant and pets escapes without injury

THUNDER BAY – A fire at a County Fair-area home caused heavy damage but was resolved with no injuries, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue reported.

Firefighters were called to the Market Street home around 4 p.m. Friday, with at least seven fire trucks and a command vehicle eventually responding.

The call came from a lone occupant of the home, who was able to escape without incident, and was subsequently assessed and found to have no injuries by paramedics.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flame as they entered the home, but were able to knock down the fire in time to limit damage to uninvolved sections of the home. The residence ultimately suffered heavy fire, smoke, and water damage, TBFR reported.

Responders also retrieved two dogs from the house.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, TBFR stated in a release Friday night.
