THUNDER BAY – A 13-year-old cyclist has suffered a broken leg and is expected to face charges following a collision with a vehicle.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials confirmed Wednesday morning that the 13-year-old cyclist had been sent to the hospital with a broken leg following a collision with an SUV Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The crash took place at the corner of Secord and Ambrose streets.

Traffic investigators with city police have determined the4 SUV, operated by a 36-year-old Thunder Bay woman, was northbound on Secord Street while the cyclist was heading east on Ambrose Street.

Police say the cyclist failed to stop for a posted stop sign, and proceeded into the intersection directly into the path of the SUV.
Police believe the driver of the SUV had no opportunity to stop or avoid the crash.

Police also say the young cyclist was wearing an ear bud and listening to music at the time of the crash.

The cyclist was taken to hospital with what appeared to be a broken leg.

Charges are pending for the cyclist.
